WAYNE STATE UNIVERSITY'S INDIAN STUDENT ASSOCIATION PRESENTS:
NAATAK: THE GOLDEN AGE OF CINEMA
SATURDAY MARCH 21, 2020
DETROIT MUSIC HALL CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS
Naatak.
For the past 100 years, cinematography has been extremely influential
to the Indian culture. We have seen it evolve from Amitabh Bachchan's
breakout in Shakti to seeing Rajinikanth breaking barriers in Baasha by
putting Tollywood on the map, to then seeing Sharukh Khan and Kajal
having the best on screen chemistry in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, to
now seeing Deepika Padukone bringing ancient stories back to life in Ram
Leela. None of these movies would have been a success if it wasn't for
Naatak laying the foundation for this art. A form of story telling that
started decades ago has evolved from live action theater into record
breaking blockbusters. This ancient form of expression has had a
formative impact on the people of India helping their culture flourish
through an ever changing form of Naatak.
